While I have written enough about Goa – from the backpacker beaches to the offbeat places to the total guide to Goa itself, I felt that I have not done justice to southern Goa, which is often overlooked by the travelers for many reasons like the lack of time or not being aware of the things that can be done. So hop on with me in this post as I take you through the things that you can do in South Goa.
1. Head out to Dudh Sagar Waterfalls
Dudh Sagar Waterfalls is one of the must-visit experiences for a traveler in Goa. Despite the fact that it is touristy and over-crowded most of the time, you’ll see why it deserves a visit once you get there. The sheer magnitude of the milky-white waters surrounded by dense forests in the Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Reserve will blow your mind for sure!
2. Idle away in the pristine beaches
Whether it is partying away at the classic Colva beach or meeting the few locals and having all the beaches to your self at the Butterfly beach, Varca and Canacona, the beaches in the south of Goa are nothing like the ones that you see in the centre. Far from being touristy, these beaches give you some quality beach time.
3. Pamper yourself in Taj Exotica Goa
If luxury is on your mind but wants a space of your own devoid of the mainstream tourism, then head straight to Benaulim and look further than the lavish Taj Exotica Goa. This splendid property is spread across more than 56 acres overlooking the Arabian Sea. With more than 140-spacious accommodation options accompanied by delicacies to savour from around the world and activities to indulge in, Taj Exotica Goa has everything to turn your regular holiday into an ultimate ‘exotic’ vacation!
4. Visit the oldest temple in Goa
Did you know that Goa is home to an ancient temple built by the Kadamba dynasty, dedicated to Lord Siva? Plan a bike ride or hire a cab to Tambdi Surla and marvel at the sculptures in the monumental Tambdi Surla temple, located amidst the lush forest reserve, listening to the melody of the stream that passes by the temple. If you are there early in the morning, you would get lucky enough to spot some beautiful wild birds!

5. Get to know the ‘spicy side’ of Goa
No, we aren’t talking about the hip and happening party vibes of Goa. We mean the delicious spices that are grown in the heart of Goa. The coastal state is home to some of the most lovely spice plantations that offer lots of spice tours to their guests. You’ll get to learn how they are grown, along with seeing organic farming up close. Not only this, some plantations even have breweries for fenny, the signature drink of Goa. So be the happy guest and get to know the lives of the locals in their spice plantations!
6. Explore the Museums
If history or military is of your interest, southern Goa will be a hit with you. The Naval Aviation Museum is a worthy one to check out and so is the San Thome Museum that showcases the evolution of technology around the world.
So that is it, folks! Head to the south and discover the different side of Goa! If you have been there and you think I have missed any place that is awesome, let me know in the comments below. I’ll add them right away, quoting you.
Have a fab trip to Goa!
